Ongoing Complications (1000+)

Any thoughts? I had my gallbladder removed 2 yrs ago, everything was fine, i experienced the “dumping syndrome” (now i have a name for it) but i have had a problem with that for years and years, other family members do too, figured i had ibs or something. anyway, when i had my sugery they found 3 adhesions, it is my understanding that these normally result from surgery, but i never had surgery before. dr. didn,t know but said these can develop from infection. so i was great, until last summer, woke up the wee hours, vomiting and diarrhea and severe pain in urq. just like my gallbladder. i would have thought i had the flu or something if not for the pain exactly in the same area. since that time i’ve had several more of these “attacks”. but the main problem is i have continuing pain in my “phathom” gallbladder. i can’t see any connection in what i eat it doesn’t seem to matter. i’ve had a ct scan that came back normal. so now i’m going to a specialist. i’m wondering if anyone has any experience with adhesions not resulting from surgery and if they could have been part of my problem all along.

“I’m so glad to hear that there are other people in the same boat as me, when it comes to consuming alcohol after having your gallbladder removed. I had surgery 4 months ago, and I still can’t seem to stomach alcohol. Granted I wasn’t much of a drinker before the surgery… but now after two glasses of champagne, I wake up the next morning with a hangover headache and stomachache as if I had drank 5-6 hard alcoholic drinks the night before.

I think I’m going to try less sugary drinks, and mix it with coke or diet coke like some other people suggested… crossing my fingers!”

I guess I was one of the lucky ones with a doctor that laid it on the line. He did tell me that the pain and bloating might not go away. And my surgeon said there may be pain at the incision site for quite a while. I had surgery 2 weeks ago and am doing pretty good. although it appears that that could change. Prior to having surgery my Gastro Dr. put me on Dexilant for my acid re flux and I am still on it. I am also on align probiotics when has also made a huge difference. I have had to cut my portions to half a serving for anything I eat. I can’t eat bananas, spicy food, Smart Balance, anything greasy, fatty, or it appears uncooked. Not bad though, I was worse than that before surgery. I have lost 10lbs and that is a plus. So we will see how this goes. Hopefully I won’t develop other symptoms on down the road. I have had severe stomach problems since I was a kid, so I am praying for the best. By the way, cream of wheat, applesauce, yogurt, some soups , greenbeans and roasted chicken in small quantities seem to work for me so far. We will see what happens Super Bowl Sunday. LOL

    “Hi there.
I had my gallbladder taken out in 1996 and I had pain for a month or so afterwards that felt similar to the gall bladder attacks I had before the surgery. I found if I had an empty stomach I would end up with this pain or if I ate high fat foods I would have cramping. It eventually went away but it was very frustrating while it lasted. People thought I was crazy since I had my gall bladder removed…how could I be having that pain still? Eventually it went away and I hope yours goes away soon too.
    Best of luck, ”

“(Never thought I’d be so happy talking and reading about crap, literally) My Gallbladder was removed two years ago. (which I’m glad about, that pain before was the worst in my life, I thought I was going insane with the missed diagnosis) Any who, I’m not sure if my pooping misfortunes started immediatly or not. If it did, I just didn’t correlate the two. (I don’t think I was told I would have the craps) I do know, I’ve cut off caffiene including my beloved coffee, I’ve cut out sodas even caffiene free, I’ve cut out high fructose corn syrup. Now those didn’t cause my butt to pray to the porcelan God, but they did make me feel nausious. What does cause my Ass Prayers are of course fatty foods, spicy foods, and acidic foods especially tomatoes/tomato sauce, I’ve notice nuts come right back out. Until now, I’ve actually blamed it on “”oh, I guess I’m getting older””, or I assumed, especially with the nuts, they were just cleaning me out. Now, I can’t tell what every thing looks like as it comes back out, but my poopy does change colors. And, for me, sometimes it happens before I even finish a meal. I think the only “”normal”” poops I have, is the one first thing in the morning, other wise, it’s always either loose, or explosive, while I rock back in forth in pain. I also have not been fortunate in the weight loss department, it’s been the opposite. I havnt noticed about Ice Cream, guess I’ll have to eat some tonight and find out! (I say I havn’t noticed because it happens so often, that I don’t always attribute it to a specific food, tomatoes being the first one along with salsa)
Thank you for allowing me to share my shitty comment, I thought I would add to the crap… ”

“i had my gallbladder out in june of 08 and i am SO bloated and FAT.
i feel like ive gained about 50 lbs, but its only (HA!) 17. my belly is SO bloated all the time, i look like im 6 months pregnant. i constantly burp and fart, i dont eat red meat, very low fat, and lots of veggies.
right after my surgery i felt 1000% better, i lost weight, i had tons of energy, YEPPIE!! it was fantastic. now here i am almost a year later and im sitting here, thinking i have some type of disease, by body feels worn out and old. oh and my belly is boiling super hard, but i havent been able to predict if im going to beef or beltch. sexy!!
i cant believe our doctors dont think all this weight gain and this “”feeling”” has anything to do with gallbladder removal. i look unhealthy. my skin has lost its glow, and its all zitty. oh, and i sweat A LOT.
i used to be a model, for peets sake!!!!!!!!!
i am RUNNING to GNC tomorrow to get those enzymes, liver flush and that fat burning mushroom!
    thanks, i hope it works!”

I had my GB out just before Christmas and since then I’ve been either slightly constipated or more the other way so it’s quite comforting to think that this will sort itself out in time – although it doesn’t seem to be the case for everyone. Here’s hoping.

I’ve had my gallbladder removed, and so has my daughter. We find that we need to stay away from fatty and greasy foods. If we don’t, we tend to feel sick. It usually takes about 4-6 weeks before you start feeling normal again. For now, I would recommend smaller meals, such as 6 small meals spaced out vs the typical 3

“I just found a webpage about the The Heartburn No More System. Is anyone familiar with this?

I’ve had chronic and near constant Gerd/acid reflux since having my gallbladder out 10/28/08 along with ERCP at same time to remove stone in duct. I’m scheduled for another ERCP in a few weeks for possible missed stone, but nothing is helping with the burning in stomach/chest, etc. ”

Carebear im sorry to hear that your still having problems. Some of the symptoms you are describing sound very similar to mine.Going on 9 months now i was having a gnawing burning feeling on my upper right side right on the ribcage under the breast.I had it off and on going on 9 months ,im still having it but the symptoms are changing somewhat. Now it is not so much a gnawing pain ,as it is an achy sore like pain.Sometimes the pain will go around to my shoulderblade. The pain is now 24/7.Ive also noticed that the pain is less when i dont eat any food at all.And milk seems to help it somewhat.Whatever it is it seems to be progressing. The pain will flare up for a few hrs then subside long enough for me to get a couple hrs of sleep. Now its starting to wake me up out of my sleep around 4 or 5am.Im afraid to eat hardly anything. What im really concerned about is, that i think i might have developed an ulcer while there doing a battery of tests. My doctor called and ordered a prescription called levaquin for me.I looked up the info on it and ,i dont seem to have any symptoms for what the drug is used for.Not to mention the list of side effects scaring the heck out of me.If your pain gets too bad i would go to the emergency room ,and they will do tests right on the spot.Im going to try the new med and if it doesnt help,i might be makng a trip to the er myself.Maybe they’ll listen to what i say there.Im afraid by the time the doctors do listen to me i’ll have either gastritis or a full blown ulcer.I sure hope we dont have the same problem. Good luck on your next doctor visit.Take care.

In my opinion we should keep pushing doctors to make gallbladder transplant. Its important organ, they dont think so unfortunatelly. Gallbladder removal destroys life comfort in most cases. I am 26 years old guy. I feel pain everyday in many areas of abdomen. Is it normal? They should try it. I have to use many pills everyday but it is not helpfull. Living with polyps seems to be better solution. Unfortunatelly I didnt know what I know now. Regards
