    “My story
I had weight loss surgery in feb 2009 – and when i had a gallblatter attack last on Oct 21st I went to see my surgeon. He did a lap gallblatter removal but left a JP drain tube in. It now appears at a week out that I have a bile duct leak. The JP tube fills up fairly quickly. I go see him tomorrow but he told me the drain will stay in for a couple of weeks until the body heals itself. My pain has not been too bad and I am feeling normal (I just wanted to say this surgery is so much harder than my WLS surgery)”

I had my gallbladder removed in 2003, and since then I have had bouts with loose stools! Also, before I finish a meal I have to go. In 2008, I had a lumbar fusion done through my stomach which made matters worse.

I am sorry to hear all your experiences, I could always drink a fair bit before the operation, afterwards I got reflux, still do at times when I drink but some hot chips usually fixes it, and I can drink life a supe fish now, it used to take 6 full strength beers to get me slightly jolly now its like 12. I also dont seem to get stupid with it either given the amounts I can now consume, has anyone else had this experience?

I had gallbladder removed. Surgeon cut my duct to my liver and left an accessory branch pouring bile into my abdomen. I had biliary peritonitis, pnuemoperitineum, septic shock. I was within 24hrs of death. The surgeon who performed the surgery told me he was sorry, he just didn’t see it. Now I have liver damage and I was informed today that I may have hepatitis. >;) I called my surgeon for 4 days telling him something was not right and he kept putting me off and telling me to walk…. needless to say, the more I was walking, the more I was bleeding and pouring bile into my abdomen. What kind of hepatitis can I have considering I have never used needles,am not gay, or had multiple sex partners? And, How long do I have to live with the pain and diarrea?

“I had my gallbladder out in April of 2005, and from time to time after surgery, pain that is similar to what many of you have described crops up. Only problem is, it seems to be happening with more frequency and I’m not sure why.

Perhaps it’s diet – I understood that after surgery, I was supposed to cut down on spicy, tomatoey-stuff, and foods with alot of fat, etc….However, more recently I’ve been diagnosed with diabetes and was told to cut back on carbs and sugar.

So, in my efforts to limit carbs I’ve been eating more meat, some of which isn’t as lean as it should be. Maybe this has something to do with the increased pain? It’s in my upper-right abdomen and it feels like my gallbladder grew back and is full of stones. Eating sometimes makes it better, or sometimes makes it worse, and I have IBS too. For the past couple of days I’ve been having constipation and diarrhea off and on, and once my stool (sorry if this is too gross) was kind of greenish-brown.

I’m not running a fever, nor am I throwing up, but my upper-right abdomen seems just a tad swollen. I have to see my endocrinologist next week about diabetic blood tests I had a few days ago and am hoping he can shed some light on what’s going on. ”

Fially when I was ready to give up my sister out of worry called our family Dr. he set me up with an ultra sound and they found a bile duct leak. I have to go for a Hydascan this thursday. How could this have been OVERLOOKED FOR 3 MONTHS??? the pain & bloating is inbelievable! I am in mmore pain now then i was with the stone in my gallbladder! I vomit at least once a day and I am sick if I don’t eat and sick if I do eat! I am amazed by the neglect of something so well known by these Dr.’s and specialists!”

    “Hello all,
In my daily search to find out why I cannot lose weight, I just happened to do a search that involved gall bladder removal and found this blog. I read every single post because I was is amazement at the amount of women that are experiencing the same things. I had to go in a corner and cry because I finally found proof that it’s not in my head, I’m not an over-eater or lazy, and my diet does not consist of just unhealthy food. I had my gallbladder removed in 2000, at the age of 30, and I have been at war with my weight ever since. My symtoms include constipation (which a doctor told me to just take Milk of Magnesia, for the rest of my life if need be), acid reflux, which has burned my esophagus, polyps found after a colonoscopy, and anemia, for (which my doctor could not give me the exact source of). Ten years later, I have gain about 30 pounds, been on several diets and exercised religiously. It gets to the point that you give up diets and exercising because you can’t see results, or you even gain weight. This site has given me a few ideas on how to curb some of my symptoms and I will start today. Right now, cut my alcohol consumption to wine, twice a week and I’m in week one of The 28 Day Diet. So far, so good but other people that have done this diet have lost up to 12 pounds in week one (I’ve probably lost 2-4). I just want to thank Beth for starting this thread and those who told their stories. I am not crazy! There is something wrong with me! Now I can do something about it!”

“I had the same thing! Gall Bladder taken out 2/2004. I had been in the ER 14 days in a row(now stop throwing up! Phenogan and Demoral , Dilaudid or Morphine was the only thing that would stop it! . All the test were Neg. A General Surgeon tlod me that he did not care what the test said, my Gall Bladder was bad. They took it out the next day and it was Neuctotic (dead). After the surgery was over, I still ws getting as sick as b4. In June, I told my Dr to give me the Autopsy NOW! I left him and found a new GI Dr. and she could not find out what was the ROOT CAUSE but she refered me to a GI Surgeon. He ran a Ph Test. A lot of Dr. don’t use this test, they do a blood test. My blood test came back OK. The Ph Test came back 5X the normal amoumt of Reflux and Acid was being released by my stomach. I was waking up like you, with a mouth full of acid! I have passed out after breathing it and choking! The Dr. told me that In was the worst case he had seen…! He told me that I suffered from Acid Reflux, Hiatal Hernia, Peptic Ulcer and Chronic Gastritis. The Hiatal Hernia (bulge like a knot on a Car Tire) was causing my Esophagus to act like an Accordion because it was very weak when my organs pushed up. So in 10/2004 he operated on me (Nissan Procedure) and corrected these disorders. But, whe they got inside my stomach all my organs were gules/stcuck together!

After the surgery, I was still as sick as b4 but it was a little different. I could not eat ANYTHING. Sick and vomitimg all the time. In the ER ALL the time. I lost 60 lbs. in less than 3 weeks ( I am 6.4′ tall and was 230. Went down to 170 lbs)! The surgeon sent me back to my Primary Care Dr. (The 1 that I had left) and he told me that the worst thing I could have done was have the surgery, I was going to suffer and the only thing left for me was Pain Management! He sent me to a PM Dr. that put me on 90 mg of Morphine and 6 to 12 mg of Dilaudid everyDAY! I struggles for 2 years trying to maintain 190-200 lbs. and still stck all the time!

7/2006 I was so sick that I could not take it! I prayed 2 week and asked GOD to send me a message because I sis not kniw which Dr, to believe. I had asked and prayed for a healing and a blessing and this was not it. I could not claim this in JESUS’s name. You see, on 3 occassions the Dr’s called the ploice to throw me out of ER’s because they thought I was seeking Narcotics! Each time I prayed and asked GOD to help me and he made his presents known! On each occassion another Dr. stepped in and admitted me into the Hospital (including when they took out my Gall Bladder). 2 weeks later I was picking up my daugther from school (3yrs old) and I passed her teacher in the parking lot and we waved. 2 min. later she came into my daughters room and told me that she had a message 4me. She said that I had been on her mind and in her prayers for the last 2 weeks and that when she paassed me outside, GOD wanted her to come back inside and tell me that GOD had HEALED my stomach………(she did not know everything about my health!)…..! I knew then that it was Addiction to the Narcotic medications. I went in to treatment…(touch battle for the last 16 months).. I still get sick but I don’t have to take Heavy Norcotics. Got back my wieght.

You need to be very carefull with this disorder! Lissen to your body. If the Dr. is telling you that you are doing fine and you are SsssICK, go to another Dr. Ask one to give you a Ph Test! Almost 4 years later I am still STRUGGLING but I am much better and I am learning more about how to live with this condition.

GOOD LUCK and may GOD lead you to the RIGHT Doctor!

How strange to stumble upon this website. I had my gallbladder taken out about 4 years ago. The first two years after having it out I was fine to drink and never had any side effects. But these last 2 years have been a completely different story. Any amount of any kind of alcohol leaves me so incredibly sick the next day. It’s strange going to bed I won’t feel sick but I wake up and as the day progresses my body drastically declines with the most violent fits of vomiting about every 30 minutes for 10+ hours. It seems the last 6 months that these spells have gotten increasingly worse in severity. I ended up in theER due to the last one where I’d only consumed 3 drinks over a 6 hour period and had drank 2 bottles of water when I got home that night. It makes no sense to be that sick with that little amount of alcohol…. My father had his gallbladder out as well and he gets violently sick within an hour of consuming any alcohol. Regardless I am never drinking again. It’s not worth the aftermath. I don’t think it is a coincidence that this many people have the same issue. It needs to be addressed by the surgeons performing these surgeries. That is not to say I wouldn’t make the same decision. I have not missed gallbladder attacks one minute. Even thinking about them makes me shiver. As far as those having trouble eating and causing diarrhea my dr gave me colestipol that I take twice in the mornings an hour before I eat breakfast and this helps me have normal stool no matter what foods I eat. I also have ibs and this medicine has been a saving grace. I can eat and not have to immediately run to the potty after.

I had my gallbladder taken out last April. I was so happy that I would never have to expierence that pain again. Well I dont really have any pain anymore but, ever since my surgery ive had cronic dierrea, so bad that if I even eat crackers I have to run to the bathroom. I have had blood tests that say my liver count is off and my white blood cell count is up. They checked for heppitites and that was negitive. Now I have noticed my eyes are kind of yellow. Everyone seems to be stumped. I cant live like this for the rest of my life. Oh ya I have also gained 20 pounds. How I dont know. I always have to go to the bathroom before anything has time to settle in my system. So it seems I traided my horrible pain for freqient visits to the bathroom with painful stomache aches. I think I would rather have the pain from my gallbladder. If anyone has any ideas please let me know. No meds please ive had enough to last a lifetime.

“I agree with you. If I had also know about all these problems, I would have left my gallbladder in!!

I had my gallbladder removed on January 8, 2010. Toward the end of February I started feeling really sick to my stomach, it hurt and I was having reflux really bad, hot throat, lump feeling, etc. Went to the doctors and was told that I had GERD and probably gastritis so she put me on 20mg of Prilosec. That helped a lot at first. I was to take it only 6 weeks, which I did and then my stomach felt good. Now, the past 2 weeks it has all come back. Very nasty!!!! I started taking the Pilosec again and it helps a little during the day but it’s all back every evening.

I’m seriously thinking I have bile reflux and not acid reflux. I also get the bile diarreah at time. I’d rather be getting that then this bile reflux! I’m going to have to call the dr’s tomorrow. I was hoping this would go away once my body started adjusting to having no gallbladder but so far it’s not.

You are correct, seems like a lot of people have this problem after gallbladder surgery and it does not get any attention!”

“I noticed a lot of people post their symptoms on here but not a lot of answers to your questions. Why? because not many health practitioners care!

You are gaining weight because you removed your gallbladder and that my friends is your body’s “”FAT FILTER””. You need to take digestive enzymes and stick to a bland diet otherwise you will continue to be overweight and uncomfortable.

I’m not a doctor! I am a normal person who was stupid enough to let some jackass remove my gallbladder 11 yrs ago. My Dad warned me not to do it but I didn’t listen. My Father was very wise to the health industry…”

    “Hello,
I am like many of the rest of you. Had a gall bladder out when I was 21. It just stopped working then I ended up extremely ill with Pancreatitus. For years after I had the same symptoms of most everyone else and not being able to go out to eat without thinking of the washroom. I was prescribed Cholestyramine. I used to take a couple a day and now I am down to one a day. If you are not on it and have these issues please ask your doctor about it. It is incredible. Just wanted to share, in case you aren’t aware of it.”
