“hi, new here
had my gall bladder out 2 years ago. was very infected and yukky (apparently) and i was very ill at the time. onslaught was sudden though for most of my life id never digested fatty foods very well.
well. ive been reading around this topic and im bothered about something. i dont know if its phantom gall bladder feelings, adhesions or what it is, but i can ‘feel’ something under my ribs, where my gall bladder used to be. its like theres something there. theres no pain, no discomfort, though i am having occasional acid reflux, but rarely. it just feels odd. its been going on for a couple of months now.
as an experiment i went on a fast for two days, just water and fruit. the feeling went away or anyway reduced right down.
ive spoken to my doc and she just said, ‘oh well, sometimes people have discomfort’ – so no help there.
something else thats been happening is that ive been getting gurgling sensations around there and further down a sort of swollen, hardness that comes and goes. im kinda thinking that might just be irritation caused by bile excretions.
does anyone recognise this and can you please ease my mind. its really bugging me.”
“Wow, I am blown away at all the posts about URQ pain. I have been experiencing it for two months now with no resolve. My pain is consistent in the same area as if there is some foreign object there that doesn’t belong. It gets worse with sitting and laying on that side. The only slight relief is laying down. I find I have trouble breathing or it just seems like I take more deep breaths. But my lungs were clear when my doc checked.
I have had no gallbladder for 4 yrs, and a partial hysterectomy (7 yrs ago). So far the docs have checked for blood clots, both with blood tests and a CT Scan, checked my liver function, a chest xray and now I am scheduled for a check of my bladder (with the camera) and an ultrasound of my kidneys. After reading all these posts it appears that I’m gonna be searching for this cause for some time. I’m glad I found out that I am not the only one though :). ”
“Hello,
I had my GB out last December. I never had any trouble until last August and then I had 4 bad episodes pretty close together. I would like to know what the supplement is that you are talking about. If you would please share this information with me I would appreciate it very much.
Thank you,
Catherine Long”I too lost weight since getting my GB removed…it will be 2 years this march. I have the pains on my right side that some have described and loose stool…sometimes Reah depending on how much fat the food I am eating contains. However, unlike a lot of people on this blog I have experienced weight loss not gain. I went from 230 to 160 since having it out and have literally not seen the inside of a gym the entire time. I don’t really watch what I eat either….I don’t purge but have at least one peice of candy everyday and some kind of dessert pretty much every night….I and all my friends and family contribute it to my GB being gone….???? I guess it affects everyone differently
“Please don’t starve yourself, your body is only trying to adjust to something that helped you process or store fats, etc. I had my gallbladder removed over 17 years ago and I still have problems at times. I know this may sound terrible, but even without a gallbladder you can still produce gall stones. I’m dealing with that now myself.
As for your doctor, I’m surprised he or she didn’t tell you to start (or even stay) on a low fat diet as anything, including eggs, that has a high fat content will make you feel like you’re having one of those “”fun”” gallbladder attacks. It does get better in time as your body adjusts, but 14 days isn’t that long. I had trouble on and off for months. Throwing up bile, etc. Your body just needs to try to figure out what to do with any fat you may consume since it’s “”storage tank”” is gone. Just try to stay away from high fat foods and really try hard not to eat anything fried or really big meals at this point. As for eggs, I’d try some of those wonderful egg substitutes like Egg Beaters and go easy on any cheese you may want in there, stick to the low or no fat varieties.
Hang in there, it will get better”
This sounds EXACTLY like what my mother is going through after her lap chole…. were you able to find a solution or relief to your pain at all? I would really apreciate it if you could possibly contact me? We don’t believe taking strong narcotics would help and just get her addicted… the doctors are slow to return calls and avoids discussing nerve damage, etc. We feel totally lost 🙁 We also don’t believe it’s psychosomatic at all. I just want to see if I could find her some relief 🙁
“I had my gallbladder removed 2 1/2 weeks ago (laparoscopic), and I am having the same problem you are having. I have tried everything everyone has suggested. Nothing works. You know what a miserable feeling it is when you are very constipated. Even when I take laxatives, it helps some, but nothing like it did before my surgery. I am so tired of feeling full and do not want to eat anything. I am afraid to eat anything for fear it makes me sick. I am living on Rolaids and sodas because they make me belch. I hope this gets better. I feel tired all the time and haven’t had a good day since my surgery.

So glad I found this site and all your posts! I had my gallbladder removed at age 21 and am now 36. I have always struggled with my weight but I don’t completely relate that to my surgery. After all this time, and having been on MANY different diets – some great, some not so great but all helped me lose weight if I followed them, I decided to research and build a diet plan for myself that also takes into consideration my lack of a gallbladder. So far, not much on the internet as far as a complete diet plan for me so i wondered if anyone on here has already done this research and set up a plan that i can review.
“I had my gb out 1 year and a half ago and have gained a HUGE amount of weight ONLY in my lower belly. I eat 1,000 HEALTHY calories a day and burn 400 at the gym- for 2 MONTHS NOW- and have lost hardly any weight. Even if I eat a SALAD with no dressing my stomache bloats up. It’s disgusting and no one EVER warned me about it. I would like to tell anyone reading to be prepared!!! Keep your gall bladder if at all possible!!! Cannot even believe there is NO solution except for ONE website’s “”weight gain after cholecystectomy kit”” which is hecka expensive but I’m going to try since i don’t wanna be fat the rest of my life 🙁
”“Hi, I, as u, Just landed on this site because I was trying to find answers to how I am feeling after gall bladder surgery.
I just don’t feel well. I occasionally have an exploading bowl movement. On top of that, I can’t eat much. i start to feel sick, and occassionally, i will wake up during the night, and have to throw up. This nausa feeling is fairly constant, and I don’t know what to do. I should feel greatful because i am over-weight, but nothing looks good to me, fruits are out, meat is out, etc. I do drink alot of water or juice, and that is the only think that seems palable to me.
If anyone else feels as i do,please respond, and if this is normal, I may have less anxiety over this.
”i had my gallbladder removed 6 months ago, the pain is much better but i still have trouble eating almost everything. within 30 minutes after any meal the diarrhea starts. i don’t have cramps or pain, but the urge is strong and i know i have to go. but i am always very bloated and have gained weight. i would think as much as i go to the bathroom, i would have lost weight.
“This is the first website I’ve been on where people have the same symptoms as me. I had my gallbladder out 7 days ago, and my main symptoms before were nausea and acid reflux symptoms. I thought after the surgery the nausea would go away, but it’s worse than before. I’m so incredibly frustrated because I’m hungry and want to eat normal food but i feel like I want to throwup 24/7, thought I havent at all. I’m barely eating anything, and taking the smallest sip of water upsets my stomach. I just want this to be over so I can feel normal again, and eat normal. I’m 21, 5.5 and now weigh 115 pounds, after losing over 40.. It’s such a relief to know other people have acid and nausea symptoms, because everywhere else I looked, people were only complaining of the pain.
I’m just praying for the day to come where I won’t feel so sick.”
I had my gall bladder and spleen removed Sept. 2007. I have a blood disorder that affected my spleen and caused the gall stones, which required the removal. After the surgery I lost weight. I weighed around 180’s before surgery and got down to 170. By Christmas I started gaining weight. I had a thyroid test done which was negative. My doctor suggested Weight Watchers (I lost weight through the program prior to surgery) but I only lost 5 lbs in 10 weeks. I do not eat any differently than I did before gall bladder surgery, I didn’t even know that I had gall stones until I had a blood attack. I did weigh as much as 215 but am now at 200-205. I am trying the South Beach diet and taking digestive enzymes. I also got the the gym regularly but it doesn’t seem to be helping much. It is very depressing! My doctor thinks I am crazy but I know it is not only me having these problems!! What else can we do?
I had my gallbladder removed labor day weekend 2011 and was drinking and back to normal the weekend after surgery. late october i drank one mixed vodka drink and was vomiting so bad and had intense pain in my gallbladder area. the pain was so intense that i could hardly breathe. i had vodka one more time a few months later and the exact symptoms returned immediately. the pain only seemed to come when i drank vodka (i drink whiskey, beer, wine, and champagne on a regular basis) but recently i’ve started to have pain no matter what kind of alcohol i drink. the pain will hit me very hard and will only lasts for about five minutes and after the cramping stops and i’m fine. i don’t ever experience pain the next morning, just when i’m drinking and then have to stop. i wonder if the pain occurs because of the food i ate before i started drinking? does this happen to anyone else?
