“I understand exactly how you are feeling! I had GB surgery 01/31 and it is now June 16th and I am in severe back pain. I’ve had CXR, US, MRI, CT, blood work, been to PT, TENS unit, chiropractor, epidural, back specialist, pain clinic and just this last week I had an MRCP which was normal, like all the other tests. My doctor said there was nothing else he could do. I am taking Lortab (pain med) which helps me with my pain. Although it doesn’t take all my pain away at least I am able to still work and take care of my family.

I do feel like I am going crazy! and for the last 5 months I felt like I was the only one with this pain. it was a little comforting to see this message board. I do hope ”

I have had abdominal pains for years and have even had several surgeries to remove an ovary and cysts. Due to my surgeries, I have an abnormal amount of scar tissue. (Doctors can’t find my remaining ovary) After my last surgery to remove three cysts about three months ago, this make surgery number 5, I realized after this one I continued to have abdominal pains. I later found out that I also have gallstones. My doctor is skeptical about doing another surgery because he feels that another surgery will cause more scar tissue (oh yeah, I also have an adhesion to my bowels). I am only 30 years old and constantly have abdominal pains, nausea, or vomiting. Anyone have any answers?

I had my gallbladder removed labor day weekend 2011 and was drinking and back to normal the weekend after surgery. late october i drank one mixed vodka drink and was vomiting so bad and had intense pain in my gallbladder area. the pain was so intense that i could hardly breathe. i had vodka one more time a few months later and the exact symptoms returned immediately. the pain only seemed to come when i drank vodka (i drink whiskey, beer, wine, and champagne on a regular basis) but recently i’ve started to have pain no matter what kind of alcohol i drink. the pain will hit me very hard and will only lasts for about five minutes and after the cramping stops and i’m fine. i don’t ever experience pain the next morning, just when i’m drinking and then have to stop. i wonder if the pain occurs because of the food i ate before i started drinking? does this happen to anyone else?

I had my gall bladder and spleen removed Sept. 2007. I have a blood disorder that affected my spleen and caused the gall stones, which required the removal. After the surgery I lost weight. I weighed around 180’s before surgery and got down to 170. By Christmas I started gaining weight. I had a thyroid test done which was negative. My doctor suggested Weight Watchers (I lost weight through the program prior to surgery) but I only lost 5 lbs in 10 weeks. I do not eat any differently than I did before gall bladder surgery, I didn’t even know that I had gall stones until I had a blood attack. I did weigh as much as 215 but am now at 200-205. I am trying the South Beach diet and taking digestive enzymes. I also got the the gym regularly but it doesn’t seem to be helping much. It is very depressing! My doctor thinks I am crazy but I know it is not only me having these problems!! What else can we do?

“This is the first website I’ve been on where people have the same symptoms as me. I had my gallbladder out 7 days ago, and my main symptoms before were nausea and acid reflux symptoms. I thought after the surgery the nausea would go away, but it’s worse than before. I’m so incredibly frustrated because I’m hungry and want to eat normal food but i feel like I want to throwup 24/7, thought I havent at all. I’m barely eating anything, and taking the smallest sip of water upsets my stomach. I just want this to be over so I can feel normal again, and eat normal. I’m 21, 5.5 and now weigh 115 pounds, after losing over 40.. It’s such a relief to know other people have acid and nausea symptoms, because everywhere else I looked, people were only complaining of the pain.

I’m just praying for the day to come where I won’t feel so sick.”

i had my gallbladder removed 6 months ago, the pain is much better but i still have trouble eating almost everything. within 30 minutes after any meal the diarrhea starts. i don’t have cramps or pain, but the urge is strong and i know i have to go. but i am always very bloated and have gained weight. i would think as much as i go to the bathroom, i would have lost weight.

“Hi, I, as u, Just landed on this site because I was trying to find answers to how I am feeling after gall bladder surgery.

I just don’t feel well. I occasionally have an exploading bowl movement. On top of that, I can’t eat much. i start to feel sick, and occassionally, i will wake up during the night, and have to throw up. This nausa feeling is fairly constant, and I don’t know what to do. I should feel greatful because i am over-weight, but nothing looks good to me, fruits are out, meat is out, etc. I do drink alot of water or juice, and that is the only think that seems palable to me.

If anyone else feels as i do,please respond, and if this is normal, I may have less anxiety over this.

“I had my gb out 1 year and a half ago and have gained a HUGE amount of weight ONLY in my lower belly. I eat 1,000 HEALTHY calories a day and burn 400 at the gym- for 2 MONTHS NOW- and have lost hardly any weight. Even if I eat a SALAD with no dressing my stomache bloats up. It’s disgusting and no one EVER warned me about it. I would like to tell anyone reading to be prepared!!! Keep your gall bladder if at all possible!!! Cannot even believe there is NO solution except for ONE website’s “”weight gain after cholecystectomy kit”” which is hecka expensive but I’m going to try since i don’t wanna be fat the rest of my life πŸ™

So glad I found this site and all your posts! I had my gallbladder removed at age 21 and am now 36. I have always struggled with my weight but I don’t completely relate that to my surgery. After all this time, and having been on MANY different diets – some great, some not so great but all helped me lose weight if I followed them, I decided to research and build a diet plan for myself that also takes into consideration my lack of a gallbladder. So far, not much on the internet as far as a complete diet plan for me so i wondered if anyone on here has already done this research and set up a plan that i can review.

“I had my gallbladder removed 2 1/2 weeks ago (laparoscopic), and I am having the same problem you are having. I have tried everything everyone has suggested. Nothing works. You know what a miserable feeling it is when you are very constipated. Even when I take laxatives, it helps some, but nothing like it did before my surgery. I am so tired of feeling full and do not want to eat anything. I am afraid to eat anything for fear it makes me sick. I am living on Rolaids and sodas because they make me belch. I hope this gets better. I feel tired all the time and haven’t had a good day since my surgery.

This sounds EXACTLY like what my mother is going through after her lap chole…. were you able to find a solution or relief to your pain at all? I would really apreciate it if you could possibly contact me? We don’t believe taking strong narcotics would help and just get her addicted… the doctors are slow to return calls and avoids discussing nerve damage, etc. We feel totally lost πŸ™ We also don’t believe it’s psychosomatic at all. I just want to see if I could find her some relief πŸ™

“Please don’t starve yourself, your body is only trying to adjust to something that helped you process or store fats, etc. I had my gallbladder removed over 17 years ago and I still have problems at times. I know this may sound terrible, but even without a gallbladder you can still produce gall stones. I’m dealing with that now myself.

As for your doctor, I’m surprised he or she didn’t tell you to start (or even stay) on a low fat diet as anything, including eggs, that has a high fat content will make you feel like you’re having one of those “”fun”” gallbladder attacks. It does get better in time as your body adjusts, but 14 days isn’t that long. I had trouble on and off for months. Throwing up bile, etc. Your body just needs to try to figure out what to do with any fat you may consume since it’s “”storage tank”” is gone. Just try to stay away from high fat foods and really try hard not to eat anything fried or really big meals at this point. As for eggs, I’d try some of those wonderful egg substitutes like Egg Beaters and go easy on any cheese you may want in there, stick to the low or no fat varieties.

Hang in there, it will get better”
