I have made the biggest mistake of my life. I had my gallbladder removed, which I felt rushed into by the surgeon, because I had polyps (very small). For some stupid reason I listenend to his bad advise and got it removed. I feel TERRIBLE!! I’m experiencing terrible digestion problems, which I never had before. I have taken enzymes, etc. all to no avail. All of this is a result of the gallbladder removal. Is there such a thing as a gall bladder transplant? I can’t live like this…I would definitely have it done. I know this may sound drastic to you (but not to me)…live in my shoes for one day and tell me how drastic it really is. “and I thought I was going Crazy! I’m glad I’m not..
dj.. I had my gallbladder out in Sept.. and I still look pregnant.. my doctor says everything is fine..I suffered for a year with Reflux and pains and waking up in the middle of the night doubled over followed by hours of diahrea before I finally cut out everything but tuna, parmasan, speggetti sauce and pasta and a little margarine it was the only thing I could eat and not get sick. And sometimes even that made me sick if I put too much margarine or if I ate a brand of sauce that wasn’t low fat.. after 9 months worth of tests and specialists .. upper gi.. ultrasound.. ucg.. a scope down my throat they finally checked to see if my gallbladder was functioning properly.. and
bingo it wasn’t.. by then my cholesterol had sky rocketed!.. (which my surgeon said was common)but I still have the problems with the reflux and heart burn and live on prevacid.. I’m going to try the whole husk psyllium like
Cynthyia recommended. my doctor said try citricell but it didn’t help..I wish I was losing weight like some of you are though.. I’m gaining like crazy.. I recently found something at vitamins.com that said prevacid inhibits the absorbtion of Vitamin B, which boosts your matabolism.. so I’ve tried adding vitamin B to my diet as supplement.
in the mean time I still have to eat a very low fat diet.. or I end up sick again”
I had my gallbladder removed in September, I’m 19 so I used to drink a fair bit being young and whatnot. The reason we can’t drink much anymore is because your liver takes over the job of your gallbladder managing bile and fat digestion, and drinking on top of this gives it too much work. I get an attack when I drink too much, particularly heavy drinks, I can’t drink port or lager but I can manage one alcopop or a glass of cherry sourz and coke!
“I recently (6 months ago) had my gallbladder removed and about 3 months ago started having really intense reflux. My GI doc says that he has seen a lot of cases in which people start having this complaint after having their GB removed. I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this?
Prior to my GB surgery, I had no issues with reflux whatsoever. My endoscopy was clean too. Right now, I’m having pretty much 24/7 reflux with really bad globus sensation. I’ve been started on prevacid 30mg once a day, which seems to be helping hit-or-miss style. I have intermittent nausea too, but my main worry is that I’m doing damage to my esophagus…. At this point, I’m just worried that I will have to deal with this problem the rest of my life! Any suggestions would be welcome.”
“Oh my God ! If their was a way i could talk to you .Everything you said is exactly what i am going through. I recently had my gall bladder removed about 9 months ago.
I am miserable and feel alone in this fight.
I have bloating , nausea, headaches, I get light headed and even my back aches whenever the bloating begins.
Everytime i eat this happens.I immedietly feel tired and it feels like i can’t breath.Sometimes it lasts for about 15 min then it slowly goes away. This happens everyday and sometimes i am bloated all day long.
Please. I would advise anyone to be careful and research this before getting the surgery.
I have been to several doctors and no one seems to know why or how to help me.
This is affecting my life and everyone around me.
I don’t want to go anywhere because of this discomfort. If some one would have told me that this would happend to me i would have never got the surgery.
My life has changed and i am very sad because i wonder how long i will have to live like this.
Please Please if some one knows a doctor or anyway i could get help please respond to this.
I am desperate and hurting beacuse no one seems to be able to help me.
Please !respond to this !”After my gallbladder surgery Oct 2010, had long process of pain and stomach issues. To make a long story short, due to the gallbladder surgery and thyroid problems I have a stomach diesease called Gastroparesis. It’s a rare stomach disease and is no cure. Basically my stomach is partially paralyzed. It’s like having a stomach flu for the rest of your life. Taking medications but don’t seem to help much. Still in lots of pain, discomfort, bloating, vomiting, diarrhea and constapation. There is no end to my misery. I can’t eat normally. Can’t have dairy, meats, raw vegis or skins. Can’t digest them.
Hi my name is Tee and I had 50-60 stones in my gall bladder forcing me to get my gall bladder removed .I was reading everyone’s questions and have a few myself.I am noticing that I have this ugly stomach fat hanging off the sides of me and I even noticed how large mt stomach still is I had the surgery sept.16 2009 ….for the last 3 days I have been throwing up and it starts with a burning feeling in my chest and then my stomach starts to hurt not even talkin about the pain that is non stop on my right side and lower back especially with rainy weather. My menstruals are very unusal use to last for 5 days. And lately its been 2 weeks staight. Please if anyone one knows this feeling respond thank you
Another problem with gallbladder removal is sphincter of oddi dysfunction. You could have had this all a long but the pain becomes worse after gall bladder removal. There is usually pain or attacks in the right quadrant and nausea with vomiting. This usually happens after eating or on an empty stomach.
I love the way you describe running to the potty and waiting for others to leave the bathroom because I feel the exact same way. Its gotten to the point where I dont even like going to the bathroom in public, including at work. My worst symptom has been the chronic diarrhea. I’ve tried to explain the “yellow liquid death” to people (close friends/family) but they dont get it. They are like “Oh, you mean like when youm have the stomach flu?” I dont know, because I’ve never had the stromach flu, thank God! But I imagine it may be something like that. I am on the prowl to try and find a diet or something that will ease the horriblw diarrhea. Any help is welcome!
“Hi, from what I have been reading (since I hag it removed too), liver can be weakened due to bile accumulation. Since there is no gallbladder to store the bile, it stays in the liver and its production and delivery may be slower than before the surgery.
When the liver is weakened we feel exhausted and without the energy, so this could be your problem. Maybe you should have your liver checked. Weak liver can also cause problems with digestion.
However, problems with digestion could be due to slow bile delivery. Although it is slow delivery, it is continuous and this may cause loose bowels.
I have been avoiding fatty foods and refined carbohydrates even after the surgery. I continued eating foods high in fiber, fruits and vegetables, proteins and haven’t had much problems with digestion.
Maybe you could see a doc, have blood work done, see if you get any results from there and then have your liver checked.”
God, I hate that some one feels the same as me. My Gall Bladder was removed in January of this year. And everything you say is so true . I feel exactly the same. I am on the Fentyln patch. And without it it I fear I will not be able to work. I have been seeking for relief and have found none. I had an injection last wed , right in the right rib area. God, it made it worse. I went and bought a rib belt , i’ve found that I get a.0001% ,as long as i don’t move that area .I can feel exactly where it is, it feels like the rib cartledge was cut and now rubs a nerve. I’m so tired of going to doctors on top of the expense and knowing the results will be the same. I can not live like this . I don’t know where to turn. The best relief I get it lying down . I even at work go to the ladies lounge and try to sleep/lay down for 30 minuets ,so I can make it though the day. I find it is worse when I sit all day. When I get home, I stay active, and it isn’t as bad as during the day…. I’m just wanding now that I have read your remarks, if there isn’t some legal action for this. I’m not looking for money, just something to help me feel the way I did ,normal. God , we take feeling good for grantite .
“Hi there,
me too, got mine removed in July 2010 after 4month of painful night..After the surgery, all was well, no pain ecept for the wounds. Of course those back pain and constipation after ops is normal. I’m recovering pretty well. During the medical leave at home, i ate lots of fish(well chinese believe fish is good for ppl who went for surgery). Took really light soup with lots of veggie and also fruit. I drank lots of water during the time too. As i have reflux so i did not eat orange(acidic fruit). Realised after the removal of the gallbladder, i no longer can take oily food… unless the toilet is just steps away. If the food is too oily, such as fried noodle or chicken rice i will have upset stomach and need to rush to the toilet. I also notice that the digestive system is not as good as before. If i eat certain veggie, like ladies finger, the next morning when i go to the toilet, i will see them.. really not sure what to eat or NOT to eat. Doctor only advice no oily food, other than that we are free to eat, but i know it’s not true. So can only trial & error… sigh.. oh ya, no spicy food too.. this is sad. I love thai food!!! ”It’s been about 7 yrs for me since surgery and I am the same…I am so uncomfortable sometimes I don’t want to get dressed. I have that roll under my chest that never existed before surgery and I have put on a lot of weight! Need help it is starting to affect my well being!
