“My husband had gallbladder surgery one month ago. He is still has pain, especially when he bends over. He cannot eat anything he wants. Still has to stay away from greasy foods, etc.

I am worried that his pain is not getting much better and will have an effect on his being able to go back to work.

Whoever said gallbladder surgery is a “”snap”” is definitely wrong.

Has anyone else out there had surgery over a month ago, and how do they feel now?”

    “these are not my symtoms.
I have an uncontrollable diarria, I have been taking an emulsion for many years which did control this but have become very iffy and I am fearful of accidents. It is also expensive and has no generic, it is called Prevalite.
I do have cramping and uncomfortable periods after eating.
I had my gall bladder removed over 30 years ago and the trouble began after.
I am 82 years old , on fixed income, did try a probiatic my Chiropractor sold me which wasn’t covered by my health plan but it did work.
I’d like to know if any of you have any natural food suggestions or herbal treatments that have worked .
    Thank you,”

“My story sounds exactly the same. Gallbladder out July ’05, pain, getting worse. Have had all the tests for bile ducts, etc. Finally dr. did a biopsy of my small intesine, guess what…finally diagnosis… Celiac disease. I have been reading alot about it (as most Dr’s dont know a whole alot about it) and have been on a gluten/wheat free diet since – makes a huge difference in the pain. Now I am almost pain free, but if I mistakenly eat something with gluten/wheat – the pain returns. Please read up on Celiac – it is definately worth a try, a very good book is “”Dangerous Grains””. Good luck.

“I have been interested in unexplained weight gain after gall bladder surgery for many years now. My best friend (and business partner), who has always been very fit and trim for the first 65 years of his life, had his gall bladder removed about 5 years or so ago. Since that point his stomach bloats terribly and causes him significant discomfort. This has been the case ever since his gall bladder was removed-year after year after year.

He has spent much money with every specialist in any part of the world (including Russia), that would agree to see him. He spent time as inpatient at Duke University Medical Center’s world famous weight loss clinic, and after being evaluated and monitored he was discharged and told (sympathetically) that they did not have any means to help him. Simply stated, they could not even guess why he was bloating or gaining weight.

He has seen dieticians, and has tried medically supervised liquid diets, etc., etc., etc.,. He burns more calories than he consumes and works with different personal trainers in the gym. I work out in the same gym & see the effort this man puts into trying to lose weight. He’s tried bile salts galore and so many other things that have been suggested by sympathetic and very well meaning people. Nothing has worked. He has seen doctor after doctor, none of whom have been able to help.

We had a discussion going at DietPower forum but it was shut down and we were essentially told we were no longer welcome. We tried our own website in order to attempt to work out our own solution(s) through an indepth exchange of information and that was not satisfactory.

Is there anyone out there who can offer hope of any real solution to this odd problem? Thank you so much for taking time to read this, any support or words of encouragement are greatly appreciated!

    “Hi there,
me too, got mine removed in July 2010 after 4month of painful night..After the surgery, all was well, no pain ecept for the wounds. Of course those back pain and constipation after ops is normal. I’m recovering pretty well. During the medical leave at home, i ate lots of fish(well chinese believe fish is good for ppl who went for surgery). Took really light soup with lots of veggie and also fruit. I drank lots of water during the time too. As i have reflux so i did not eat orange(acidic fruit). Realised after the removal of the gallbladder, i no longer can take oily food… unless the toilet is just steps away. If the food is too oily, such as fried noodle or chicken rice i will have upset stomach and need to rush to the toilet. I also notice that the digestive system is not as good as before. If i eat certain veggie, like ladies finger, the next morning when i go to the toilet, i will see them.. really not sure what to eat or NOT to eat. Doctor only advice no oily food, other than that we are free to eat, but i know it’s not true. So can only trial & error… sigh.. oh ya, no spicy food too.. this is sad. I love thai food!!! ”

God, I hate that some one feels the same as me. My Gall Bladder was removed in January of this year. And everything you say is so true . I feel exactly the same. I am on the Fentyln patch. And without it it I fear I will not be able to work. I have been seeking for relief and have found none. I had an injection last wed , right in the right rib area. God, it made it worse. I went and bought a rib belt , i’ve found that I get a.0001% ,as long as i don’t move that area .I can feel exactly where it is, it feels like the rib cartledge was cut and now rubs a nerve. I’m so tired of going to doctors on top of the expense and knowing the results will be the same. I can not live like this . I don’t know where to turn. The best relief I get it lying down . I even at work go to the ladies lounge and try to sleep/lay down for 30 minuets ,so I can make it though the day. I find it is worse when I sit all day. When I get home, I stay active, and it isn’t as bad as during the day…. I’m just wanding now that I have read your remarks, if there isn’t some legal action for this. I’m not looking for money, just something to help me feel the way I did ,normal. God , we take feeling good for grantite .

“Hi, from what I have been reading (since I hag it removed too), liver can be weakened due to bile accumulation. Since there is no gallbladder to store the bile, it stays in the liver and its production and delivery may be slower than before the surgery.

When the liver is weakened we feel exhausted and without the energy, so this could be your problem. Maybe you should have your liver checked. Weak liver can also cause problems with digestion.

However, problems with digestion could be due to slow bile delivery. Although it is slow delivery, it is continuous and this may cause loose bowels.

I have been avoiding fatty foods and refined carbohydrates even after the surgery. I continued eating foods high in fiber, fruits and vegetables, proteins and haven’t had much problems with digestion.

Maybe you could see a doc, have blood work done, see if you get any results from there and then have your liver checked.”

I love the way you describe running to the potty and waiting for others to leave the bathroom because I feel the exact same way. Its gotten to the point where I dont even like going to the bathroom in public, including at work. My worst symptom has been the chronic diarrhea. I’ve tried to explain the “yellow liquid death” to people (close friends/family) but they dont get it. They are like “Oh, you mean like when youm have the stomach flu?” I dont know, because I’ve never had the stromach flu, thank God! But I imagine it may be something like that. I am on the prowl to try and find a diet or something that will ease the horriblw diarrhea. Any help is welcome!

Another problem with gallbladder removal is sphincter of oddi dysfunction. You could have had this all a long but the pain becomes worse after gall bladder removal. There is usually pain or attacks in the right quadrant and nausea with vomiting. This usually happens after eating or on an empty stomach.

After my gallbladder surgery Oct 2010, had long process of pain and stomach issues. To make a long story short, due to the gallbladder surgery and thyroid problems I have a stomach diesease called Gastroparesis. It’s a rare stomach disease and is no cure. Basically my stomach is partially paralyzed. It’s like having a stomach flu for the rest of your life. Taking medications but don’t seem to help much. Still in lots of pain, discomfort, bloating, vomiting, diarrhea and constapation. There is no end to my misery. I can’t eat normally. Can’t have dairy, meats, raw vegis or skins. Can’t digest them.

“Oh my God ! If their was a way i could talk to you .Everything you said is exactly what i am going through. I recently had my gall bladder removed about 9 months ago.
I am miserable and feel alone in this fight.
I have bloating , nausea, headaches, I get light headed and even my back aches whenever the bloating begins.
Everytime i eat this happens.I immedietly feel tired and it feels like i can’t breath.Sometimes it lasts for about 15 min then it slowly goes away. This happens everyday and sometimes i am bloated all day long.
Please. I would advise anyone to be careful and research this before getting the surgery.
I have been to several doctors and no one seems to know why or how to help me.
This is affecting my life and everyone around me.
I don’t want to go anywhere because of this discomfort. If some one would have told me that this would happend to me i would have never got the surgery.
My life has changed and i am very sad because i wonder how long i will have to live like this.
Please Please if some one knows a doctor or anyway i could get help please respond to this.
I am desperate and hurting beacuse no one seems to be able to help me.
    Please !respond to this !”
