I’m 17 with the same thing!!! However I don’t have a gallbladder anymore, and honestly, taking it out didn’t help my problem. They’ve done every possible test and still nothing besides IBS and Acid Reflux. I had to start homeschooling because it was so bad that my attendance at high school was terrible and homeschool was a better option. I’m going back next semester only because I’m going to suck it up. I’m so tired of hearing that it’s only because I’m “stressed” or it’s just IBS, that I’ve basically given up and no one else I know has these symptoms. I’m glad it’s not just me! What have they said about your gallbladder?

I also had gall bladder surgery in October 07 and have had lots of pain in the rib cage and radiating to my back. I also have severe indigestion. I also have had many test done and they come back negative. They have put me on acid reflux medicine but it does not help much. I was better off before the surgery. Hope we can all find some answers.

“I have been suffering from URQ pain for the last 6 years. I have had every test you can have. My gall bladder had been removed. I have been diagnosed with Celiac disease. Gluten free diet for several of these 6 years. The pain did not go away even with my diet. I have had a cryo procedure done to freeze the nerve to the painful area. This helped more than anything. I had the cryo procedure done again, however this time it did not work as well and my pain is worse than ever. I am at my wits end. My family doctor thinks that I an crazy and a drug seeker..(NOT TRUE!!!) My pain doctors only treat the pain. My gastro doc says that my liver enzymes are good again and my Celiac is under control. Where do I go from here?!?!?!?!?! Even on pain meds I am in horrible pain!!!

After reading a lot of these posts I don’t feel quite so crazy. That there are others out there who are in the same boat. Does anyone have any suggestions as to where I might go from here.

I pray for all of you who are suffering right now with no answers. I feel your pain!!! Literally!!!”

I too had my gall bladder out 4 months ago, however i have been diagnosed in july 08 with acid reflux. My endoscopy and other tests showed nothing and even my gall bladder test came back ok. i met with a surgeon who thought it might still be my gall bladder causing the acid symptoms and pains in my stomach, so i had it removed. The pain in my stomach went away and the surgery did show that my gall bladder was diseased after all. For two months after my surgery I still had the same acid reflux symptoms and then felt good for 2 months. Now it seems for the last week I am suffering terrible from acid reflux. The surgeon advised me that it could take up to 14 months to discard the bile from your gall bladder and the feeling is the same as acid reflux. I’m not sure if I have acid reflux or leftover gall bladder problems. My chest is tight feeling, the burning sensation radiates to my back, but nothing helps. I have been on medicines since july 08. i currently take 40mg of prilosec and 300 mg of zantac and today still needed to add in some mylanta to try to help it. My heartburn doesnt occur after eating or at night as the usual symptoms state. I wake up with it and go to bed with it. It lasts all day and once it starts it goes on for weeks. Does anyone else feel this way?. I don’t think removing your gall bladder gives you acid reflux , I think you are just getting rid of the bile and I wish there was a real cure for all of it.

“My 2 years of pure hell:

Over a year ago I had my gall bladder removed. It all started 2 years ago, though. I was 8 months pregnant and had been complaining to my OB for about a month about an aching back. They told me it was just what happens towards the end of the pregnancy. I didn’t want to be a whiner, so I sucked it up, cried myself to sleep because of the pain every night. I then had what I thought was a heart attack. I was driving home on a desolate road by myself from a wonderful dinner at my parent’s house late one night. I suddenly, had to throw up. I couldn’t even pull over and roll the window of my car down. I couldn’t talk, I couldn’t move, I was so weak and all I could do was try to reach for my phone to dial for help. No signal. I had my window down, and was limply hanging my hand out the window trying to wave someone down. No one stopped. They just drove by. I was whispering, because it’s all I could do, “”Save my baby, save my baby””! I finally felt a bit better and drove a bit more and again, it started. I was crying and begging for someone to help my baby, but nothing could come out of my mouth I was too weak. I shouldn’t have been driving, but I had no choice. I drove on. I felt almost 100% better in a mile or so. What happened?! I told my doctor. It was just bad gas, I was told. I was in labor and had a very hard time breathing while having the baby, but I had her, and everything was fine. Or was it?
Two weeks after having th baby I was in bed, and I felt that pain again. I was instantly throwing up. Buckets. I mean I didn’t even know I had that much in me!! I couldn’t tell my hubby what was wrong. Every time I opened my mouth out it came. We packed up the 2 week old and went to the emergency room. They did the bloodwork, they did an sonogram of my gallbladder, and I was admitted into the hospital with severe pancreatitus and gall stones with a swollen liver. A week later (After still laying in a hospital bed), I had my gall bladder removed. I went home shortly after to try and live a “”normal”” life. After all the doctor said it usually takes people 2 weeks to recover from the lapriscopic procedure. Yeah, right. 2 weeks later I was back at the emergency room (Yep in the middle of another bad snowstorm), and they just told me it was bad heartburn or something and gave me a strong Pepto Bismol type drink. I didn’t get better and I was admitted again with an inflamed liver, and recieved an endoscopic cut in the liver’s cervix. I couldn’t keep anything in me for weeks. On the plus side, I suppose, I lost ALL of my 40lbs of baby weight in the matter of 2 months. Well, after about 8 months, I started feeling a bit more normal, and I could eat more solid food. I could have Thanksgiving dinner (I’d suffer later, but I freegin’ ate it for spite).
What’s new? Recently I developed a sore back. I thought it was just that we needed a new mattress since it wasn’t so bad, but earlier this week, I felt sharp pains where my GB was. My internal organs hurt. Going through what I went through earlier, I now know the difference between a plain back ache and stuff going on inside. I called my doc (whom I havn’t seen for a year, so I wasn’t being a hypochondriac or anything), and the nurse told me that sometimes people who had the surgery get that. Now, come on, I know that. I’ve been feeling them every time I eat something with fat in it. Thanks for reminding me, but this was different, I told her. This is intense and painful. So bad I’m almost stopped in my tracks. She said she’d have to check with the doctor before she set up an appointment. What the?! I tell you I’m in serious pain, and you’ll SEE?! UG! I’m so frusterated! Why doesn’t the medical community want to aknowledge when someone has chest pains associated with the digestive system?! Is it not important?! I mean, I have heard of cases where people die when they arn’t treated effectivly! Needless to say, I finally got the appointment and saw him. He wants me to take some Pepsid pill again, and see if it helps. NO IT WON’T!!! Listen to me! Listen to my sympthoms! I wanted to cry when I left the office. In fact I did. I’m crying now. I’ve HAD it with these doctors. I want to beat them senseless and tell them that it is important, and I’m begging for help! I have a small child. I have a demanding career. I am smart, but I am not a doctor, and I don’t want to self diagnose, but I am forced to because they are all afraid of getting sued or something, or they are numb to the patient’s feelings? I don’t know. I just know I am so upset.
Last year, after my GB was removed I found Curezone. I’ve tried the colon cleanse, but I was a wuss and I couldn’t keep my PB shakes down long enough, and I was starving all the time. And I was afraid of having another attack when it came down to me following up with my liver cleanse. I got some parasites out, and was TOTALLY freaked out by what I saw. Please, someone tell me I’m not alone! Tell me I’m not over reacting to these heartless doctors who don’t seem to less about the digestive system then me.

I had my gall bladder removed in oct of 2000 and have been treated for sphincter of oddi dysfunction in jan of 2001 but still suffer from pain. I am admitted to the hospital two times a year with severe pain and my digestive tract is rested with only iv fluids (no food by mouth) for 7 to 10 days. No one seems to know whats wrong. The pain is so bad i cannot wear a bra and at this point so many foods trigger severe pain that i stop eating for long periods of time. Food is the biggest trigger and I have gotten worse as time has passed. I am a 40 year old mother of 3 that lives a pretty difficult life with this problem. No one seems to be able to figure out why I am suffering so much since the sphincter of oddi problem developed and was hospitalized twice for a month after the initial ERCP (I’ve had 5!). I am struggling to have a normal life, but living with pain and being on morphine for 5 years has weighed heavily on me. Is there any relief out there for this?

I understand exactly what everyone is going through, I too just resently had my gallbadder removed about 4 weeks ago. I did not have any pain for two weeks and then just this past sat morning 1am woke up with stabbing pain under right ribcage where gallbladder was. Called the Dr and he ordered some labs and a Hida Scan. Had that done today and they told me that everything looked good. I went to the ER with a gallbadder attack and they sent me to a gastrologist and he said it sounded like gallbladder problems but wanted to run a scope down my throat first to rule out ulcers then if nothing was found they would do a ultrasound, well the scope found nothing and then they did the ultrasound and found stones. I was really upset about this unnecessary scope test. Anyhow now the surgen wants me to go back to this gastrologist, I told them I would just suffer with the pain. I am really wishing that I had kept my gallbladder now that I know that there are so many out there that have the same problems and the Dr’s do not know what is causing the pain. Makes me wonder how they came to be Dr’s. I am so upset that I do not know what to do now. I can not afford to be out of work and the pain radiates into the middle of my back as I do physical labor. (Dishes in a resteraunt). I am glad to have read that I am not the only one with this kind of problems.

“Hi, I think everyone should read this. I am now no longer afraid of strange movements in my abdomen. I’ve also accepted the fact that I will have to live with a certain amount of pain.

Do please give up red meat and fried foods. I drink Yakult (the probiotic drink) after dinner and it makes me feel good. Homeopathy helped me get rid of IBS or running to the loo after every meal or snack.

“I have a disfuntional sphincter of oddi . I was diagnosed in about 1998. I had my gall blader removed and the pain got worse over time. I was going backwards and forward to thehospital in agony it felt like a sharp and intence pain in my chest that radiated to my back and shoulders.

It was a white tail spider bite that was a blessing in discuise. I was biten for the second time and once again reacted badly I was admitted to hospital where they were giving me codeine to relive the pain. Sudenly the pain in my chest came back aand my liver function test were comming back getting worse every test.
Finely a gasto dr was called in he looked at he test results ceased the codiene and my LFT started to go down i had a> Was booked in for a ERCP and the readings where very high
I have had it cut twice now and have only recently had a nother attac10 years has passed now.

Did you know that codeine actually makes the pain worase hence morphiene brakes down to codien in the liver and this can make the pain worse also.

If you have this pain and condition see aa specialist it can be fixed and controled with the right knowledge.”

“Well, I’m glad to see I am not alone, sitting on the throne!! We need to have humor to deal with this.

I too recently, May 2000, had my GB removed, surgery was emergency as the GB was packed with stones and infected badly.

Since the surgery I have had minor pains in the GB area, usually after eating, but they subside after alittle while. Some pain in the upper right side of my back after alot of activity that involves using the right side of my body, shoulder and arm.

But the big problem is the IBS or the runs especially after being active or having a large meal..I have not found a happy medium yet, but am looking. I don’t not want to become less active as I will put on weight, yet, running to the bathroom is not quite what I had in mind.

I hope to take some of the suggestion from this forum and find a solution to the problem. Thanks. ”
